Working for BUEMS

Currently we have over 60 EMTs on our staff; all are either certified as Emergency Medical Technicians in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. These EMTs are scheduled for between 3 and 15 hours per week in the Fitness and Recreation Center and the Case Athletic Center to cover recreational, intramural, club sport, and credit and non-credit class activities. In addition to these shifts, BUEMS EMTs cover all events at the Agganis Arena including varsity events, concerts and shows, as well as at special events both on and off campus.  The pay for the position starts at $10.25/hr and you earn a $0.15 merit increase for each semester that you work and a $0.10 increase for each summer that you work. Special events such as those at Agganis Arena pay $12/hr.

BUEMS also has an educational component which offers continuing education classes at least once a month. Those that are directly related to BUEMS are mandatory for staff members, so unless you have a family, educational or religious conflict, you will be expected to attend these meetings. You will receive Massachusetts continuing education credit and be paid for mandatory in-services. While you won't be paid for attending non-mandatory continuing education classes, we still encourage you to attend, and you receive continuing education credits at a discounted rate for these classes.

Other benefits offered to staff members include our CPR and First Aid Instructor class offered every spring and the opportunity to assist in instructing lab sessions for the EMT class on campus. Instructors are paid $8.25/hr for their internship time and then are paid $12.00/hr once they have been approved to teach on their own.

If you are not certified in MA we can be of assistance in explaining the reciprocity process to you and we can provide the necessary paperwork as well. You can also find this information at the web site: http://www.mass.gov/dph/oems/emt/emtcert.htm#challenge. Massachusetts is one of only a handful of states that do not accept the National Registry EMT certification, but most students with an out-of-state EMT certification will only have to take the computerized Massachusetts exam after filing some paperwork and paying a fee.

If you are interested in employment with BUEMS, please e-mail Ray Levy, Coordinator of BUEMS. We currently have openings for EMTs who have been awarded work study. If you do not have work study and are interested in employment, we will consider your application based on your availability and we may have a position available for you as a sub. Please fill out the Hiring Form, Schedule Availability Form, Code of Conduct Acknowledgement Form and the Hepatitis Vaccination Form to bring with you to your hiring meeting with Ray.
